Earth Medicine

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

In this instance, I am talking about Diatomaceous Earth.

A little background story first… some years ago, I went to a very bad dentist. The woman was ruthless and incompetent at the same time. She screwed around with everything in my mouth, cutting into gums, replacing enamel with crowns and veneers, and did this screwed up bridge over two teeth where two root canals had been done… both on her watch because the endodontist she sent me to did a half-ass job the first time. I relived the Inquisition every time I went there, and I payed her thousands of dollars for the privilege. In the midst of all this, there were antibiotics… several rounds of them. I went from being on the way to losing some weight, to having my gut in complete upheaval because of a systemic candida albicans infection. I wound up with food allergies. I wound up with my period becoming painful and heavy, and taking way too long. I wound up with mostly chronic diarrhea punctuated by occasional days of not having the runs.

I had been “diagnosed” by several holistic doctors as having leaky bowel syndrome… which actually refers to pinprick holes in the intestine walls leaking into the peritoneum… actually a rare occurrence.  After spending thousands of dollars on Chinese herbs and acupuncture, I finally hit upon what was really going on.

I’ve tried a number of things to get the candida under control and out of my system. I did the Hanna Kroeger Candida Formulas I and II, and I supplemented that with Black Walnut capsules… and that did help some… in fact, if my period were really rough, I would hit this stuff and the period would slack off pretty well.

I tried baking soda… as in swallowing several spoonfuls a day, chased by water. Yes, that alkalizes the system, but it couldn’t do it all.

I tried Willard Water… great stuff… but again, it alkalizes the system, but couldn’t do it all. It did give me some comfort and relief. I put the stuff in my cats’ drinking water and it completely healed one cat’s weepy eye that had been scratched by another cat.

At long last, last Friday the 16th, I followed a friend to a nice feed store on Veterans Memorial Drive, and picked up a big 25 lb. bag of food grade diatomaceous earth for $19.50.  That night, I started taking the stuff: one tablespoon in some juice. The stuff is a fine powder that has an astringent smell… you will need something with a reasonably strong taste to get it down.

I’ve been taking one helping in the morning and another at night and I am impressed. Seriously. My food cravings are changing… I want veggies and fruit and nuts like all get-out. My gut is feeling good and my tummy isn’t as poochy. I’ve had NO diarrhea, and what has come out has been really interesting. The stools are large and solid, and it looks like it has scrubbed some oddball stuff out of my body… some kind of fuzzy, wooly stuff.

This morning, Thursday, I noticed that the rosacea on my cheeks was already fading. While it has never been a severe case of the red blotchiness, I don’t like it. It won’t be long before I’ll be down to just using powder foundation without the liquid foundation under it.

Since the basis of diatomaceous earth is silica, I expect my hair to get even better looking. I hope my nails improve as well.

So what else can I do with this humongous bag of D.E.?  I’ve given several ziplock bags of it to friends to try out. I’ve put a pinch of it into my cats’ food (you really have to bury it in something moist). The stuff can be used to kill bugs… they walk in it and then when they clean themselves, the tiny diatoms are sharp enough to kill the bugs. I have used D.E. in my garden with some success.

By all means, give this stuff a try. At the very least, it won’t hurt you. It’s cheap and it has numerous applications.

Defunkers for Personal Protection

Defunker I and II

Examples of the Defunker I and II

If you log onto http://www.turtleisland.cc and then go to the “medicine pendants” page, the first things you’ll see are the “defunkers”. Members of three different paranormal investigating groups in Houston consider these their P.P.E.s (Personal Protective Equipment). In fact, it is their members that dubbed them “defunkers”. People who do energy work like these both as tools for focusing energy and as protection from inappropriate energies. People who work in dense energy environments like bars and hospitals appreciate the “defunkers”, too! These little assemblies have come in so handy on so many occasions, that they’ve become absolutely entrenched – - I have to keep these in inventory!

As with many discoveries, this one was quite by accident. I was making jewelry, and I had the “urge” to wrap an obsidian wand a certain way, with certain stones. As with all assemblies, I put it in a bag with other things that I would energize and bless before I put them on my display boards. I pulled out that obsidian wand and handed it to Rick Ferguson during set up at a fair the next weekend. Since he was busy setting up, he popped it into his pocket to look at later. Rick is a big jolly fellow that occasionally rubs the anal-retentive types the wrong way – - probably the reason we get along so well. During the day, some woman walked up to Rick and asked him if he would like some healing work. Rick said yes without asking what flavor of energy work, or who the woman’s teacher was. He sat there, feeling this funky energy flying around him, but it wasn’t sticking. The woman was doing her best to block his head chakras. Some time after that, I asked him what he thought of that piece I had handed him during set-up. He fished it out of his pocket and had this shocked look of realization. This kept him from getting “funked-up”. I couldn’t get it away from him, either. The rest is history.

The mahogany obsidian is a nice, smooth, laid-back variety of obsidian. Obsidian is well known for it’s capacity to shield against inappropriate energies. Wrapped along with this combination of stones, and energized by my angels, it has the vibration of Archangel Michael’s sword. The energized combination is much more than the sum of its parts. When people are looking for something of a protective nature, I point them to these assemblies on my display boards and ask them to pick one up and hold it to see how it feels to them. A lot of them purchase. I never, ever have to hard-sell. If they don’t like that particular vibe, I can equip them otherwise.

I’ve always liked how the black obsidian arrowheads look and feel, so I began making “defunkers” out of them. Granted, the black obsidian is really tough looking; the appearance has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. The “defunker charm-collector” is a more stealthy method of packaging for this combination, great for wearing in a conservative workplace. I actually make a “defunker bracelet” which has the same protective vibe in your energy field, but does not really function as a tool.

Because of its nature and intent, it is best to wear your defunker either over your thymus or solar plexus; whichever feels best to you. The funkier the environment you are in, the closer you need it to you. It works well worn inside your shirt, like Kevlar armor. It is more a statement of intent and strength when worn outside the clothing – - like subliminally saying, “don’t jack with me”.

Chakra Jewelry

Typical "7 chakras" necklace from www.turtleisland.cc

If you log onto http://www.turtleisland.cc and then go to the “medicine necklaces” page, a pair of very sweet-looking necklaces you will see are the “7 Chakras Necklaces”.

Chakras are the popular name given to the energy centers associated with the endocrine system, associated with 7 particular points on the body. Where did the whole concept of chakras come from? Around the turn of the last century, a group of theosophists translated a whole lot of Eastern texts ranging the whole gamut from health, philosophy, religion, yoga and meditation? They were the vanguard of the spiritualist movement, which eventually became known as the New Age movement. Granted, they got some of this stuff wrong. Some of it, like Ledbeatter’s The Chakras, really qualifies as one of many fluffy intellectual dead-ends. What good is all that fluff if it isn’t packaged so you can actually use it?

Where knowledge of chakras comes into play, is where you really start coming into awareness of your mental/emotional attitudes and their effects on your health. You can often stop a syndrome in the physical body by catching the causal attitudes and releasing them. So, if you tend to have lots of sinus pain, try to approach the basis of it within your own mental/emotional frame of reference. Is your nose out of joint? Are you crying on the inside? Are you feeling sorry for yourself, and if so, why? After doing a little self-checking, you may discover that you don’t need to take that antihistamine!

Sometimes one chakra may be over-stimulated by your circumstances. For example, the root chakra, which is located just below the base of the spine, will tend to be dominant under times of extreme stress, family issues, times of anger, and challenges to survival. While it is good to bring up the root chakra energy to help keep you going, it is not good to live like that. People who live from their root charkas tend to repeat and not learn from their mistakes, and tend to be in a lot of drama.

If you are under a great deal of stress, if anything, this would be the one time to settle down and meditate, and connect to your Divine Source. Bring in divine wisdom through prayer and meditation so you can consciously discover and release any patterns that are bringing stress into your life, and then change it all for the better. Bring in White Light from the heart of God in through the top of your head to fill your whole body, then balance your energy centers so the head chakras are more in control. Getting the head chakras to connect with the heart is important because it will tend to determine the quality of your life.

To my way of thinking, everything is a tool, and anything you put on you, within your energy field, has the potential of making you stronger or weaker on an energy level. In other words, my jewelry is just another way to package different energies that people need help with. While both of these necklaces are intended to balance and optimize the energy centers associated with the endocrine system, each of these has its particular focus.

The “7 Chakras Necklace I” Necklace is dainty and sweet, and suitable to wear to the office. The central stone is a Moonstone, which is both an activator for the other stones and possesses a very soothing vibration to assist the wearer with all of the transitions in life. Moonstone also connects the head chakras with the heart chakras. Working from right to left, from the 1st to 7th chakra, we have Snowflake Obsidian, Carnelian, Tiger’s Eye, Green Jade and Rose Quartz (for the thymus and the personal heart) on either side of the Moonstone, Blue Onyx, Sodalite, and Amethyst. This combination of stones would be described as soothing. Instead of firing up your root chakra, we’re grounding and smoothing it out with Snowflake Obsidian. Famed Houston psychic Rick Ferguson says this necklace works as an emotional balancer and has a lot of water and dolphin energy.

The “7 Chakras Necklace II” Necklace features a much more aggressive assortment of stones, including four classic “master healer” stones. Again, the central stone is a Moonstone, and working from right to left, from the 1st to 7th chakra, we have Garnet, Carnelian, Citrine, Malachite and Rose Quartz (for the thymus and the personal heart) on either side of the Moonstone, Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli, and Amethyst. Garnet, Citrine, Malachite and Lapis are all pretty aggressive. This version is intended to open and stimulate all of the energy centers with the kundalini fire for increased energy utilization. Great for times when you need an extra energy boost, but it can make some people feel “antsy”. This is not for someone who is angry, but rather for someone who needs a little help in standing up for herself.

If you have any questions about stone medicine, or other topics, feel free to drop me a line.
