"Triple Balancer" necklace with turquoise, amethyst and lapis lazuliMillennia ago, when humanity first started using stones for their healing properties, the short list of must haves included the five classical master healer stones: Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Jade and Amethyst. Each works it its own way in a person’s energy field, and not everyone can handle having all of them in their energy field all at once. I will recommend either dowsing or kinesiology to make sure a given combination is good for you, since it is not a good idea to overload your energy field. Too many stones can actually make a person weaker. I do use these very often, but judiciously in making my medicine jewelry.

The first “master healing stone” is Amethyst, which is the “stone of spirituality and contentment”. Amethyst works by activating the crown chakra to bring in the higher knowledge and higher energies in through the top of the head. It is considered a meditation stone. This stimulation brings greater awareness of where you and whatever trouble it is you are trying to heal is coming from. Many difficulties in a person’s life can come from past lives, miasms, or repeating patterns in the current life, so it is important to have this realization. Because of its ability to bring realization, it is useful in attaining freedom from addictive patterns and addictions in general. Amethyst in a given assembly will help draw the kundalini energy up from the lower chakras, which in itself can be healing and energizing. There is a great deal of lore associated with Amethyst because it is found all over the world.

Jade is found in different forms and colors all over the world and is known as a dream stone and a stone of fidelity and harmony, and has been used from mankind’s most primitive roots. Different cultures add their own general attributes to it, associating it with luck, resourcefulness, prosperity, confidence, and protection. Jade is often used to assist in healing disorders of the heart, hips, kidneys and spleen.

Lapis Lazuli is also found and revered throughout the world, and used in most world cultures. Lapis comes in different shades of blue and different inclusions found in each region. Lapis from Afghanistan is famous for its deep blue color and sparkling pyrite inclusions. It was often mentioned in the Edgar Cayce channeled material. Lapis provides for the opening and cleansing of both brow and throat chakras, then its energy moves elsewhere to work on other chakras to activate the regenerative energies of the body. Because it is a “head chakra” stone it will tend to alleviate depression and stimulate thought towards making changes in one’s life. Lapis is considered a stone of total awareness.

Malachite is the original form the first ore smelted to make man’s first metal: copper. It is mentioned in the Edgar Cayce readings as “lapis linguis” and “lapis ligurius”, and it is clear that he was referring to the copper content by the context. Malachite is regarded as a “stone of transformation” that facilitates insight into one’s life and circumstances and encourages one to take responsibility for these conditions. Being a “heart stone”, it would tend to assist in becoming more prosperous because when you work from the heart center, others around you are more prone to cooperate and reward such behaviors. It fosters friendships, loyalty, and practicality. Malachite begins by working on the heart chakra, then moving the energy to remove energy elsewhere. It is energetically powerful for the thymus, and also useful in dealing with arthritis, inflammation and pain.

I will make certain to note that you cannot make a Malachite elixir by soaking the stone because it has the potential to impart arsenic. I would also suggest double-checking the use of this stone next to the skin for the same reasons.

Turquoise is also found and prized all over the world, with probably the greatest wealth of lore attributed to it. In the Native American lore it has been used for protection, healing, and even cloud-busting rituals. The green turquoise is considered female, and its energy works on the thymus, first, then moves elsewhere. The blue turquoise is considered male and its energy begins in the throat chakra. Because of this polarity, I have discovered that many women need the more aggressive male turquoise and many men need the more nurturing green turquoise. I find the green turquoise more useful in treating inflammation. The uses for turquoise in healing are myriad.

To these 5 classical master healer stones I would tend to add Moonstone, as it figures prominently in my own medicine jewelry. Moonstone is what I call an “activator stone” because it tends to both connect and activate the head and heart chakras, and make other stones work better and smoother.
