I think it is time to define some of these things.  This isn't about hair-splitting, just about awareness.

Native American Jewelry, as presented often in this blogsite, is just that... jewelry that is made by a member of an American Indian tribe... it isn't necessarily "healing jewelry", or "metaphysical jewelry", and it isn't necessarily "spiritual jewelry".  A lot of tribes don't want anything whatsoever to do with the new age. The finer energetic qualities that would give the jewelry healing or chakra balancing or spiritual energy qualities cannot be built into the jewelry in the typical workshop setting... it comes from within the person making the item. If you are wondering whether an item could have the subtle energy qualities you are looking for, take a look at the person who made it... is this person happy or perpetually griping about something? What is the feeling and attitude that emanates from that person? Do you want this person's energy?

As many times as I have had to explain to someone that just because a person is a "psychic" doesn't mean that they are on a "spiritual" path. There are a lot of "psychics" in the world that will hand you all sorts of advice on your money, love life and health, and yet cannot manage any of these endeavors themselves. Look at where they are coming from! Why would you go to someone who can't maintain a steady relationship for advice about your own love life? Why would you go to someone for financial advice if they didn't have a checking account, a credit card, any property or any savings? Would you go to an obese person for dietary advice?

I've worked the new age/psychic fair circuit for close to 20 years and I have seen some really messed-up stuff. I have seen the newly-awakened get manipulated by people with no other angle than how to get all their money. I have seen "psychics" actively set up an energetic barricade to siphon all the traffic to their own tables. I've seen people who brought in the funkiest energy whenever they "opened to channel", and I've seen "healers" who corded their clients so they could be manipulated every which way. And the strange thing is these sheisters are often proud of their accomplishments! You really have to use your discernment.

You can be part of any group of people or belief system that the uninitiated would associate with being "spiritual" and still not be spiritual. I know a lot of "pagans" that are not on "the path", as well as a lot of people reared in the Buddhist, Christian and other traditions. Being on a "spiritual path" means that you really are questioning every aspect of your reality instead of buying into the old status-quo. There is no room for a load of dogma on a truly spiritual path. To embark on "the path" means that you are really looking at what you are, and what you are attracting into your life, and looking at the basis of it all within yourself. You are a divine being, a piece of God incarnate, you are also the devil incarnate as well, because when you are looking at yourself in the mirror, you are also looking at the biggest obstacle you must overcome... yourself. We all have angels and spirit guides assigned to us, and most of this retinue is plain bored stiff because we have not progressed quickly enough. Most of the time the angels that are assigned to us don't like us because we haven't evolved... how's that for a concept? To really be on a spiritual path is to work towards being the kind of person our angels would actually LIKE.

There is a lot of outright JUNK out there on the I-way. Probably the best example of collected misinformation is Wikipedia. The same can be said about a lot of new age and metaphysical websites. A lot of new age websites offer a lot of stuff made in sweatshops in Asia and the Pacific Rim and it all the same old stuff. I've seen a chakra necklace from India for over $1,000 on one website, and a chakra necklace from Thailand for $75. The only difference is the price because there really is no intent other than making a fast buck. If you are looking for a necklace with spiritual healing energy, and wondering whether a site is offering you what you are after, then you ought to have your answer on either a customer blog or a testimonials page. Write to the merchant offering that stuff and see what their approach is.

So what makes jewelry spiritual or metaphysical or healing? The intent behind it and the energy infused into it by that intent. The intent is to assist the wearer on their path, and that intent is cemented in the entire process from the selection of each component to the blessing of the finished piece specially for the wearer. Don't settle for anything less.
