“When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro!”
That’s my tag line these days. We have to become highly adaptive in order to handle living in the current turbulent times leading up to what we call the “5th World of Peace”. Prophesies have talked about this particular time period for millennia, talking about the tightropes that governments, societies and people in general will be walking, and the predicted challenges to survival. If you’re feeling a bit nervous, you are not alone. Even the most solidly “asleep at the wheel” type people are looking around and getting worried.
So what does the tag line have to do with any of this? Well… we live in a system that governs through control, intimidation and fear. We “weirdos” are the ones who won’t buy into it. If anything, we have to focus on creating a new mentality and methodology… a new operating system for ourselves. A lot of us “new-agers” have been working along that line for a while, so it is no surprise that this is the stuff that is suddenly working and sustaining us right now. The more “weird” or chaotic the external world becomes, the more our new-agey “weird stuff” is quietly coming into play.
The time has come to get creative on all levels. We have to find new ways of looking at things, new thought processes, new ways of making things, and new things to meet new needs, and new ways to connect with people. Time to put all of those years of study and research to good use. Time to quietly break out of the box. Time for the weird to turn pro.
Over the past 15+ years, I have cultivated a solid reputation in my region as the “stone medicine woman”. I don’t hard sell anyone. I won’t sell something to a person if I don’t think it is right for them. This is especially important considering some of the flim-flammers that have been operating in the area. Doing a little counseling to assist people with their core issues helps, too. Being the one metaphysical jeweler with both integrity and a product line makes me a standout in this region. People who see my website and resonate with what I’ve created will inquire and purchase based on these same qualities. I am building relationships with people I’ve never seen, and receiving repeat orders and referrals from them.
For example, this year I have noticed that the psychic/holistic fairs have been pretty much flat in both sales and attendance for me. The few times I’ve traveled to work festivals in other cities this year have not been productive enough to justify the expense. People look for me at my regular fairs (see my “events” page), so I show up to serve and be supported in service. What’s really wild is the amount of sales (and counseling) I’ve been doing through my web site… and I’ve been making at least what I would have expected doing fairs in the best of times, and often more! I am already editing the number and types of festivals I’ll be working this fall. When I let go of some old standards, I discovered numerous other possibilities ready and waiting. You remember that when one door closes another always opens, now don’t you?
So what if I’m at a show where jewelry just isn’t selling? Well, I can do Reiki or Quan Yin Joray healing work, or clacking, which is a lightning-fast type of energy work. If that isn’t acceptable, I can offer to do skin painting with either henna or acrylic paints. The energy is already being channeled through me. Skin painting only requires a box of paint and some brushes. It doesn’t take that much to adapt and make a buck!
A friend of mine, who is having trouble getting her sales going, having just received her Realtor’s license. The market is pretty cutthroat and territorialized in Houston. I told her about geopathic stress and how it can keep a house from selling, and some of the standard radionic cures to correct the problems. I told her to handle the properties that have been on the books too long, and correct the radionic problems that have kept them from selling. It is possible for her to develop a reputation for magically selling off difficult properties. She is at least receptive about applying such a unique “value-added” approach.
What I am saying is that each of us has ability to stand out even in a crowded field. A good attitude and a fresh approach count for a lot, especially nowadays. |
